Sexuality Mental Health Media Threatens Daughter

The portrayal of young women as sex objects in the media can damage the mental and physical health of girls, said experts in the United States.

Reports issued American Psychological Association says the magazine, television, video games and music videos have a bad impact for the mental growth of children a woman.

Sexualities can cause lack of confidence and encourages girls attacked depression and eating disorders like anorexia or bulimia.

The pictures also have a bad impact for the development of sexual health of girls, the researchers said.

Task force established by the American Psychological Association as "the public increasingly concerned" with sexualities daughters.

Research conducted on the content and impact of television, music videos, song lyrics, magazines, movies, video games and the Internet.

Ads of products intended for children of women also highlighted.

Sexualities happens when someone is judged solely on the basis of sexual attraction in appearance, not by the attitude of the person or character, and when someone described only as sexual objects.

The researchers gave the example of a sports shoe ad featuring pop star Christina Aguilera dressed in school uniform with shirt buttons open and licking a lollipop.

According to research conducted by the agency, such as this depiction that sells women as sex objects and a negative impact for girls in many ways.

"The impact of child sexualities women in the media today are very clear," said Dr Eileen Zurbriggen, the association's leader and professor of psychology at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

"We have a lot of evidence to conclude that sexualities negative impact on many things, including the functions of the mind, physical and mental health, sexual health and development."

American Psychological Association called on the parents, school officials and health experts to realize the impact this sexualities in girls and young women.

And they suggested that schools teach students to interpret the ability of mass media and explain to students the negative impact of the portrayal of women as sex objects in sex education programs.

The government also had a responsibility to limit sexualities images of women in the media and advertising, they said.

Dr Zurbriggen added: "As a society, we must change this picture by picture sexualities which gives a positive message for girls - which describes the ability and the uniqueness of women."

"The goal is to spread this message to all adolescents - boys and girls - that will encourage the development of good sexual health."

Professor Andrew Hill, a medical psychologist at the University of Leeds, said it was hard to find the lack of that report.

"If you look at teenage magazines, it contains about sex."

"Our society is a society inundated with visual images - our view of other people governed by their physical appearance."

He added the image portrayal of women as sex objects by media and advertising difficult to handle.

"One of the most important thing is the social responsibility - the world of advertising and other mass media should be aware that products and images they produce can have a bad impact," he said.
